Complementary therapies in medicine. 2019;:208-217
Abstract
OBJECTIVE The severity of angina pectoris has been recognized. It is believed that Chinese herbal injections have an outstanding clinical effect on this condition. This network meta-analysis was devised to investigate the comparative efficacy of eight Chinese herbal injections (Ciwujia injection, Dazhuhongjingtan injection, Huangqi injection, Shenfu injection, Shengmai injection, Shenmai injection, Shenqi Fuzheng injection, Yiqifumai injection) in the treatment of angina pectoris. METHODS A literature search was performed in PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library, Chinese Biological Medicine Database, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang Database, and Chinese Scientific Journal Database from their inception to June 25, 2018. A pre-designed eligibility criterion was utilized in this network meta-analysis, and a methodological quality analysis was conducted. Data analysis was performed by WinGUGS 1.4.3, Stata 13.0 and TSA software, and the odds ratio or mean difference with the 95% credible interval was reported for symptomatic improvement, electrocardiography improvement, fibrinogen, triglyceride and cholesterol. The ranking probability of interventions in various outcomes was also utilized. RESULTS A total of 73 randomized controlled trials with 6639 patients were identified. Integrating network meta-analysis results, Shenqi Fuzheng injection plus western medicine therapy and Shenmai injection plus western medicine therapy were shown to be more efficacious than other therapies. In addition, Huangqi injection plus western medicine therapy and Shenmai injection plus western medicine therapy performed well in improving the haemorheology index and serum lipid parameters. CONCLUSIONS Eligible Chinese herbal injections plus western medicine therapy might have a better impact on angina pectoris patients than western medicine therapy alone. While this study had limitations, the findings should be interpreted with caution. In addition, more high-quality randomized controlled trials with a large sample must be conducted to support this study.

He, J, Wu, P, Dong, Y, Gao, R
Zhongguo Zhong yao za zhi = Zhongguo zhongyao zazhi = China journal of Chinese materia medica. 2019;(5):1010-1018
Abstract
The aim of this paper was to provide reference for the clinical safety use of aconite through the retrieval of literature about adverse reactions, predict its mechanism of cardiac toxicity by using network pharmacology, and provide ideas for the studies on toxicity mechanism of toxic Chinese medicines. The papers on adverse reactions of aconite were searched to established a database and summarize the adverse reactions of aconite. The results of literature review showed that the main causes for adverse reactions in clinical use of aconite included overdose use, short cooking time, consumption of medicinal liquor/medicinal diet, external use and misuse and so on. Therefore, the dosage of aconite should be strictly followed in clinical application, and the decoction method should be notified to the patients in detail to avoid taking the medicinal liquor and diet containing aconite,so as to prevent the occurrence of adverse reactions as much as possible, and make the best use of aconite in clinical application in avoid its toxicity. At the same time, based on the results of literature review, the network construction and visual analysis of cardio toxicity produced by aconite were carried out by using the network pharmacology technologies. RESULTS showed that aconite can be applied to eight biological processes such as action potential of cardiac myocytes, cardiac conduction-related cell signal transduction, cardiac myocytes contraction, action potential involved in cardiac myocytes contraction, and signal transduction from atrial myocardial cells to atrioventricular node cells, and three target genes(SCN5 A,GJA1,GJA5). It was predicted that Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata may influence cardiomyocyte depolarization, intercellular information transmission and material exchange by acting on three target genes(SCN5 A,GJA1,GJA5) and regulating the sodium channel protein and the expression of gap junction protein, thus affecting the heart rhythm as well as its structure and function and causing cardiac toxicity.

Potential of Fatty Oils from Traditional Chinese Medicine in Cancer Therapy: A Review for Phytochemical, Pharmacological and Clinical Studies.
Huang, Y, Zhu, J, Lin, X, Hong, Y, Feng, Y, Shen, L
The American journal of Chinese medicine. 2019;(4):727-750
Abstract
Cancer management is a worldwide challenge. In addition to effective cancer therapies like chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery, treatment based on traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and combined TCM with western medicine has gradually gained attention in Oriental countries. One potential TCM approach using extracted fatty oils, containing fatty acids which are important active ingredients with a variety of pharmacological activities, makes significant contributions to cancer treatment. The strategies of treating cancer with the fatty oils of TCM were classified into "Fuzheng", which usually associates with improving immunity, represented by coix seed oil. The other classification is "Quxie", which relates to inducing apoptosis of cancer cells, and is represented by Brucea javanica oil. Compared with other active substances, the literature about anticancer fatty oils is relatively limited, and most of them focus on the composition and other biological activities without a systematic review. Therefore, based on the theories of "Fuzheng" and "Quxie" in TCM, in this paper, the anticancer effects of fatty oils have been reviewed. The chemical composition, anticancer mechanism, listed drugs, studying dosage form and clinical application of fatty oils have also been discussed. In summary, since there are different types and abundance of fatty oils among botanicals, anticancer effects of fatty oils can be achieved through two TCM theory-based strategies. We hoped that this review paper can reveal the anticancer potential of fatty oils and provide a reference for future related studies.

Wang, Y, Zhao, H, Wang, Q, Zhou, X, Lu, X, Liu, T, Zhan, Y, Li, P
Journal of diabetes research. 2019;:9030893
Abstract
Diabetic kidney disease (DKD), a leading cause of end-stage renal disease (ESRD), has become a serious public health problem worldwide and lacks effective therapies due to its complex pathogenesis. Recent studies suggested defective autophagy involved in the pathogenesis and progression of DKD. Chinese herbal medicine, as an emerging option for the treatment of DKD, could improve diabetic kidney injury by activating autophagy. In this review, we briefly summarize underlying mechanisms of autophagy dysregulation in DKD, including AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), the mechanistic target of rapamycin (mTOR), and the sirtuin (Sirt) pathways, and we particularly concentrate on the current status of Chinese herbal medicine treating DKD by regulating autophagy. The advances in our understanding regarding the treatment of DKD via regulating autophagy with Chinese herbal medicine will enhance the clinical application of Chinese medicine as well as discovery of novel therapeutic agents for diabetic patients.

Xue, ZZ, Zhang, RX, Yang, B
Zhongguo Zhong yao za zhi = Zhongguo zhongyao zazhi = China journal of Chinese materia medica. 2019;(17):3601-3607
Abstract
Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex( MOC),the stem bark of Magnolia officinalis( MO) and M. officinalis var. biloba( MOB),is a main ingredient in more than 200 types of Chinese formulae commonly used in clinics. MO and MOB are widely distributed in China, from Sichuan of the west to Zhejiang province of the east and from Shannxi province in the north to Guangxi province in the south. This review summarizes new findings on geo-heralism of MOC concerning textual research, plants taxonomy, genetic study, chemical study, and pharmacological activity, resulting in the following views. ①The original plants of MOC are suggested to be divided into three geographic clans according to the form of leave and the result of genetic research; ②Concentrations of magnolol, honokiol, magnoloside A,magnoloside B,magnoflorine, and β-eudesmol in samples collected from different geographic areas are varied;③Samples of MOC produced in Hubei and Sichuan were traditionally regarded as Dao-di herbs, which were called Chuanpo, and the pure haplotype of MOC produced in Hubei may become a genetic index.
