Abstract
It is thought that imbalances in gut flora may contribute to the pathogenesis of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) suggesting probiotics may be a useful intervention. This blog post reviews the evidence for using specific strains of probiotics (namely E.Coli and Saccharomyces boulardii) in both Ulcerative Colitis (UC) and Crohn’s Disease. Additional research is needed in this field although advances in research could show promise for the utilisation of probiotics in the future.
