Application of Calcium Sulfate Whiskers to Cement-Based Materials: A Review.

Abstract
In recent years, significant attention has been paid to the use of calcium sulfate whiskers (CSWs) to enhance the performance of cement-based materials (CBM). This technology has attracted widespread interest from researchers because it enhances the performance and sustainability of CBM by modifying the crystal structure of calcium sulfate. This article summarizes the fundamental properties and preparation methods of calcium sulfate whisker materials as well as their applications in cement, potential advantages and disadvantages, and practical applications and prospects. The introduction of CSWs has been demonstrated to enhance the strength, durability, and crack resistance of CBM while also addressing concerns related to permeability and shrinkage. The application of this technology is expected to improve the quality and lifespan of buildings, reduce maintenance costs, and positively impact the environment. The use of CSWs in CBM represents a promising material innovation that offers lasting and sustainable advancement in the construction industry.

The Effect of Internet-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy on Major Depressive Disorder: Randomized Controlled Trial.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Many people living with major depressive disorder (MDD) in China do not receive treatment owing to a lack of mental health services, along with significant stigma toward mental illness. Internet-based cognitive behavioral therapy (ICBT) has been proposed to increase access to mental health care for people with MDD. OBJECTIVE The aims of this study were to (1) evaluate the efficacy of ICBT for depressive symptoms in patients with MDD; (2) evaluate the effect of ICBT on anxiety symptoms, nonspecific psychological distress, general self-efficacy, depression stigma, social function, and health-related quality of life (HRQoL); and (3) explore the acceptability of and satisfaction with the ICBT program among participants. METHODS Patients with MDD were enrolled and randomized to the ICBT group or the waiting-list control (WLC) group. The ICBT group received ICBT delivered through a WeChat mini-program with general support by nonspecialists. Participants in the 2 groups were self-evaluated online at baseline and posttreatment for changes in the primary outcome (ie, depressive symptoms) and secondary outcomes (ie, anxiety symptoms, nonspecific psychological distress, general self-efficacy, depression stigma, social functional impairment, and HRQoL). Changes in outcomes were measured by changes in overall scores on respective scales, and response and remission rates were calculated based on depressive symptoms. The acceptability of and satisfaction with the ICBT program were measured by treatment adherence and participants' feelings (ie, modules seriously completed, perceived benefit, and satisfaction). RESULTS We included 40 patients who were randomly assigned to the ICBT group and 44 who were assigned to the WLC group. Compared with the WLC group, the ICBT group had fewer depressive symptoms, fewer anxiety symptoms, less nonspecific psychological distress, and greater general self-efficacy. Moreover, the ICBT group had higher response (18/31, 58%) and remission rates (17/31, 55%). The adherence rate in the ICBT group was 78% (31/40), and the majority of participants who completed all ICBT modules were satisfied with the ICBT program. CONCLUSIONS ICBT demonstrated greater improvements in depressive symptoms, anxiety symptoms, nonspecific psychological distress, and general self-efficacy among selected patients with MDD in comparison with the findings in waiting-list controls. Abstract
Prostate cancer is a major disease that threatens men's health. Its rapid progression, easy metastasis, and late castration resistance have brought obstacles to treatment. It is necessary to find new effective anticancer methods. Ferroptosis is a novel iron-dependent programmed cell death that plays a role in various cancers. Understanding how ferroptosis is regulated in prostate cancer will help us to use it as a new way to kill cancer cells. In this review, we summarize the regulation and role of ferroptosis in prostate cancer and the relationship with AR from the perspective of metabolism and molecular pathways. We also discuss the feasibility of ferroptosis in prostate cancer treatment and describe current limitations and prospects, providing a reference for future research and clinical application of ferroptosis.

Abstract
The relationship between muscle wasting and mortality risk in the general population remains unclear. Our study was conducted to examine and quantify the associations between muscle wasting and all-cause and cause-specific mortality risks. PubMed, Web of Science and Cochrane Library were searched until 22 March 2023 for main data sources and references of retrieved relevant articles. Prospective studies investigating the associations of muscle wasting with risks of all-cause and cause-specific mortality in the general population were eligible. A random-effect model was used to calculate the pooled relative risk (RR) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for the lowest versus normal categories of muscle mass. Subgroup analyses and meta-regression were performed to investigate the potential sources of heterogeneities among studies. Dose-response analyses were conducted to evaluate the relationship between muscle mass and mortality risk. Forty-nine prospective studies were included in the meta-analysis. A total of 61 055 deaths were ascertained among 878 349 participants during the 2.5- to 32-year follow-up. Muscle wasting was associated with higher mortality risks of all causes (RR = 1.36, 95% CI, 1.28 to 1.44, I2 = 94.9%, 49 studies), cardiovascular disease (CVD) (RR = 1.29, 95% CI, 1.05 to 1.58, I2 = 88.1%, 8 studies), cancer (RR = 1.14, 95% CI, 1.02 to 1.27, I2 = 38.7%, 3 studies) and respiratory disease (RR = 1.36, 95% CI, 1.11 to 1.67, I2 = 62.8%, 3 studies). Subgroup analyses revealed that muscle wasting, regardless of muscle strength, was significantly associated with a higher all-cause mortality risk. Meta-regression showed that risks of muscle wasting-related all-cause mortality (P = 0.06) and CVD mortality (P = 0.09) were lower in studies with longer follow-ups. An approximately inverse linear dose-response relationship was observed between mid-arm muscle circumference and all-cause mortality risk (P < 0.01 for non-linearity). Muscle wasting was associated with higher mortality risks of all causes, CVD, cancer and respiratory disease in the general population. Early detection and treatment for muscle wasting might be crucial for reducing mortality risk and promoting healthy longevity.

Molecular insights into the temperature and pressure dependence of mechanical behavior and dynamics of Na-montmorillonite clay.

Abstract
Sodium montmorillonite (Na-MMT) clay mineral is a common type of swelling clay that has potential applications for nuclear waste storage at high temperatures and pressures. However, there is a limited understanding of the mechanical properties, local molecular stiffness, and dynamic heterogeneity of this material at elevated temperatures and pressures. To address this, we employ all-atomistic (AA) molecular dynamics (MD) simulation to investigate the tensile behavior of Na-MMT clay over a wide temperature range (500 K to 1700 K) and pressures (200 atm to 100 000 atm). The results show that increasing the temperature significantly reduces the tensile modulus, strength, and failure strain, while pressure has a minor effect compared to temperature, as seen in the normalized pressure-temperature plot. Mean-square displacement (MSD) analysis reveals increased molecular stiffness with increasing pressure and decreasing temperature, indicating suppressed atomic mobility. Our simulations indicate temperature-dependent dynamical heterogeneity in the Na-MMT model, supported by experimental studies and quantified local molecular stiffness distribution. These findings enhance our understanding of the tensile response and dynamical heterogeneity of Na-MMT clay under extreme conditions, aiding the development of clay minerals for engineering applications such as nuclear waste storage and shale gas extraction.

Use of Biological Feedback as a Health Behavior Change Technique in Adults: Scoping Review.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Recent advancements in personal biosensing technology support the shift from standardized to personalized health interventions, whereby biological data are used to motivate health behavior change. However, the implementation of interventions using biological feedback as a behavior change technique has not been comprehensively explored. OBJECTIVE The purpose of this review was to (1) map the domains of research where biological feedback has been used as a behavior change technique and (2) describe how it is implemented in behavior change interventions for adults. METHODS A comprehensive systematic search strategy was used to query 5 electronic databases (Ovid MEDLINE, Elsevier Embase, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, EBSCOhost PsycINFO, and ProQuest Dissertations & Theses Global) in June 2021. Eligible studies were primary analyses of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) in adults that incorporated biological feedback as a behavior change technique. DistillerSR was used to manage the literature search and review. RESULTS After removing 49,500 duplicates, 50,287 articles were screened and 767 articles were included. The earliest RCT was published in 1972 with a notable increase in publications after 2000. Biological feedback was most used in RCTs aimed at preventing or managing diabetes (n=233, 30.4%), cardiovascular disease (n=175, 22.8%), and obesity (n=115, 15%). Feedback was often given on multiple biomarkers and targeted multiple health behaviors. The most common biomarkers used were anthropometric measures (n=297, 38.7%), blood pressure (n=238, 31%), and glucose (n=227, 29.6%). The most targeted behaviors were diet (n=472, 61.5%), physical activity (n=417, 54.4%), and smoking reduction (n=154, 20.1%). The frequency and type of communication by which biological feedback was provided varied by the method of biomarker measurement. Of the 493 (64.3%) studies where participants self-measured their biomarker, 476 (96.6%) received feedback multiple times over the intervention and 468 (94.9%) received feedback through a biosensing device. CONCLUSIONS Biological feedback is increasingly being used to motivate behavior change, particularly where relevant biomarkers can be readily assessed. Yet, the methods by which biological feedback is operationalized in intervention research varied, and its effectiveness remains unclear. This scoping review serves as the foundation for developing a guiding framework for effectively implementing biological feedback as a behavior change technique. Abstract
Objective: Previous studies have shown a relationship between retinopathy and cognition including population with and without chronic kidney disease (CKD) but data regarding peritoneal dialysis (PD) are limited. This study aims to investigate the relationship between retinopathy and cognitive impairment in patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis (PD). Methods: In this observational study, we recruited a total of 107 participants undergoing PD, consisting of 48 men and 59 women, ages ranging from 21 to 78 years. The study followed a cross-sectional design. Retinal microvascular characteristics, such as geometric changes in retinal vascular including tortuosity, fractal dimension (FD), and calibers, were assessed. Retinopathy (such as retinal hemorrhage or microaneurysms) was evaluated using digitized photographs. The Modified Mini-Mental State Examination (3MS) was performed to assess global cognitive function. Results: The prevalence rates of retinal hemorrhage, microaneurysms, and retinopathy were 25%, 30%, and 43%, respectively. The mean arteriolar and venular calibers were 63.2 and 78.5 µm, respectively, and the corresponding mean tortuosity was 37.7 ± 3.6 and 37.2 ± 3.0 mm-1. The mean FD was 1.49. After adjusting for age, sex, education, mean arterial pressure, and Charlson index, a negative association was revealed between retinopathy and 3MS scores (regression coefficient: -3.71, 95% confidence interval: -7.09 to -0.33, p = 0.03). Conclusions: Retinopathy, a condition common in patients undergoing PD, was associated with global cognitive impairment. These findings highlight retinopathy, can serve as a valuable primary screening tool for assessing the risk of cognitive decline.

Abstract
Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common cancer in the world, and its incidence rate and mortality are on the rise in many countries. In recent years, with the improvement of economic conditions, people's living habits have changed, including lack of physical activity, poor diet patterns and circadian rhythm disorder. These risk factors can change the colon environment and the composition of intestinal microbiota. This state is called intestinal imbalance, which increases the risk of cancer. Probiotics, a class of microorganisms that help maintain gut microbial homeostasis and alleviate dysbiosis, may help prevent inflammation and colorectal cancer. These probiotics inhibit or ameliorate the effects of dysbiosis through the production of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), modulation of immunity, maintenance of the intestinal epithelial barrier, pro-apoptotic mechanisms, and other mechanisms. This review aims to explain the interaction between probiotics, the gut microenvironment and the gut microbiota, and summarize reports on the possibility of probiotics in the prevention and treatment of colorectal cancer.

Comparison of Ibuprofen with Ketorolac on the Control of Renal Colic Pain: A Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Studies.

Abstract
PURPOSE The comparison of ibuprofen with ketorolac remains controversial for the pain control of renal colic. We therefore conduct this meta-analysis to compare the analgesic efficacy of ibuprofen with ketorolac for renal colic. METHODS We have searched PubMed, EMbase, Web of science, EBSCO, and Cochrane library databases through December 2022 for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) assessing the analgesic efficacy of ibuprofen in comparison with ketorolac for renal colic. This meta-analysis was performed using the random-effect or fixed-effect model based on the heterogeneity. RESULTS Four RCTs were included in the meta-analysis. In patients with renal colic pain, intravenous ibuprofen and ketorolac produced comparable pain scores at 15 min (MD = -0.46; 95% CI = -1.24 to 0.31; P = 0.24), 30 min (MD = -0.81; 95% CI = -1.75 to 0.31; P = 0.09), 60 min (MD=-0.63; 95% CI = -1.40 to 0.13; P = 0.10) and 120 min (MD = -0.74; 95% CI = -2.18 to 0.70; P = 0.31), as well as adverse events (OR = 0.95; 95% CI = 0.61 to 1.49; P = 0.83). CONCLUSION Ibuprofen can obtain comparable analgesic efficacy to ketorolac for renal colic pain.

Identification of potential new COVID-19 treatments via RWD-driven drug repurposing.

Abstract
By utilizing Optum Life Sciences Claims Data, we constructed Real World Data (RWD) cohorts comprising over 3 million patients and simulated a clinical trial observational study design to evaluate over 200 FDA-approved drugs with COVID-19 repurposing potential, and identified a dozen candidates exhibiting significant reduction in the odds of severe COVID-19 outcomes such as death, intensive care unit (ICU) admission, hospitalization and pneumonia. Notably, certain drug combinations demonstrated effects comparable to those of COVID-19 vaccines. Furthermore, our study revealed a novel finding: a quantitative linear relationship between COVID-19 outcomes and overall patient health risks. This discovery enabled a more precise estimation of drug efficacy using the risk adjustment. The top performing drugs identified include emtricitabine, tenofovir, folic acid, progesterone, estradiol, epinephrine, disulfiram, nitazoxanide and some drug combinations including aspirin-celecoxib.
