Abstract
BACKGROUND This meta-analysis was performed to evaluate the effect of Seprafilm® on postoperative small bowel obstruction. METHODS A literature search was conducted in the PubMed and EMBASE databases through August 2020. The pooled risk ratios as well as the corresponding 95% confidence intervals were calculated using RevMan 5.3 software. RESULTS A total of 9 clinical control trials involving 4,351 patients (2,123 in the Seprafilm® group and 2,228 in the control group) were included. The overall analysis showed that the pooled risk ratio was 0.45 (95% confidence interval = 0.34-0.60; P < .00001), indicating that the risk of postoperative small bowel obstruction can be significantly decreased by the application of Seprafilm®. Similarly, an obvious effect of Seprafilm® on reducing the rate of postoperative small bowel obstruction was also shown in the subgroup analyses by population (adult participants), study design (randomized control study or nonrandomized control study), region (Japan or Korea), follow-up duration (2 years or 5 years), and sheet number of Seprafilm® (1 sheet or >1 sheet). CONCLUSION In conclusion, the use of Seprafilm® is beneficial for decreasing the rate of postoperative small bowel obstruction.

Effects of bariatric surgery on glycemic and lipid metabolism, surgical complication and quality of life in adolescents with obesity: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Obesity in adolescents is associated with numerous health risks and co-morbidities, including type 2 diabetes and dyslipidemia. Bariatric surgery on adolescents induces weight loss, but little is known about metabolic effects of these operations. OBJECTIVE To explore weight loss and metabolic effects of bariatric surgery on young people. SETTING A systematic review and meta-analysis. University Hospital, China. METHODS PubMed and EMBASE were searched for relevant studies up to July 2017. The related studies in adolescents after operation were included. RESULTS A total of 49 studies with 3007 patients were included. The average preoperative age ranged from 13.9 to 19.9 years. Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (n = 1216), laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding (n = 1028), and laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (n = 665) were the most common bariatric surgeries performed. At the longest follow-up (range, 12-120 mo), bariatric surgery led to an overall 16.43 kg/m2 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 14.84-18.01) and 31% (95% CI: 28%-34%) reduction in body mass index. There were significant improvements in glycemic and lipid profiles including glycosylated hemoglobin A1C, fasting blood insulin, fasting blood glucose, total cholesterol, triglyceride, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, postoperatively at 12 months. The remission rate of dyslipidemia was 55% (95% CI: 34%-76%), 70% (95% CI: 55%-82%), and 95% (95% CI: 80%-100%) at 1, 3, and>5 years after surgery. Roux-en-Y gastric bypass produced better improvements than other surgical procedures. CONCLUSION Bariatric surgery in adolescents may achieve significant weight loss, and glycemic and lipid control. Further well-designed studies with longer follow-up are warranted to provide more reliable evidence.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To review the latest comparative research of minimally invasive transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF) and traditional open approach. METHODS The domestic and foreign literature concerning the comparative research of minimally invasive TLIF and traditional open TLIF was reviewed, then intraoperative indicators, length of hospitalization, effectiveness, complication, fusion rate, and the effect on paraspinal muscles were analyzed respectively. RESULTS Minimally invasive TLIF has less blood loss and shorter length of hospitalization, but with longer operation and fluoroscopic time. Minimally invasive surgery has the same high fusion rate as open surgery, however, its effectiveness is not superior to open surgery, and complication rate is relatively higher. In the aspect of the effect on paraspinal muscles, in creatine kinase, multifidus cross-sectional area, and atrophy grading, minimally invasive surgery has no significant reduced damage on paraspinal muscles. CONCLUSION Minimally invasive TLIF is not significantly superior to open TLIF, and it does not reduce the paraspinal muscles injury. But prospective double-blind randomized control trials are still needed for further study.
